Friday, April 19, marked the start of construction of a new distribution center for Stedin in Vianen.
Because of the rebuilding of the power grid, the grid operator needs a lot more material and therefore space to store it. With this new distribution center, Stedin is doubling its storage space to 60,000 square meters in one fell swoop. Stedin is expected to occupy the building in mid-2025.
CFO Danny Benima: ,,Stedin literally needs more ‘shelf space’ to store all its equipment. From screws to transformers. With this new distribution center, we will soon be able to stock more. Having more on the shelf also makes us less susceptible to material shortages. This will make us less vulnerable and ensure that our technicians can get on with the strengthening and expansion of our electricity grid faster.”
4,000 different materials The new distribution center will be at industrial park De Biezen in Vianen, where Stedin leases the building on a long-term basis from HVBM Vastgoed. The business park is a stone’s throw from where the A2 and A27 freeways intersect and a few minutes from the A12 and A28. The distribution center will soon have an area of 34,000 square meters for the storage of some 4,000 different types of materials. HVBM Vastgoed is developing the new distribution center for Stedin based on BREEAM-NL New Construction ‘Excellent’ guidelines. Stedin is spending €50 million for its new distribution center.
